CONGRATULATIONS - Monika Wejnert
SINGLES WINNER - Gallipoli Cup ITF G4 : April 2008 SINGLES WINNER - Perth ITF 18U G5 : December 2007 SINGLES WINNER - 16U National Championships : December 2007
Academy junior Monika Wejnert has had a great year of tennis. In her first ITF tournament, she won all the way through qualifying to take out the singles title in December's Perth ITF G5.
She then followed this up 2 weeks later by taking out the 16U National Singles Title for the loss of only 13 games through the whole draw.
This caps off a great year for Monika, which saw her excel in both junior and open events. Monika has also recently been selected to represent Australia on the Junior Federation Cup team, and will travel to Thailand in May 2008 for that event.
Now in April 2008, Monika has taken out the girl's singles title in the inaugural Gallipoli Cup ITF G4 event.
Joel Braund : State & National Champion 14U
The incredible winning streak of 13 year old Academy junior Joel Braund is still alive. In a run of matches that has seen him break Raphael Nadal’s 73 consecutive victories, Joel is on a 77 match winning run in local Junior Tournaments. That’s 15 tournaments in a row ! His most recent successes started back in July in the Rod Laver State Championships and the Winter Nationals the following week. As the 8th seed in the State Championships, he went on to easily win the prestigious 14U State title. He then followed up the next week by heading into the Winter Nationals unseeded, and once again claimed the title in the 14U singles.
Joel’s already back to normality in school and his regular training at the Academy, but with local TV and newspapers queuing for interviews, that won’t last for long.
Great effort Joel !!

Welcome to the Academy !
In the early 1980’s, as tennis became a fully professional sport, Pat Cash was developing the skills which would take him to a Wimbledon crown and five Grand Slam finals, two Davis Cup victories and a ranking of number four in the world.
Almost twenty years later, Pat has created a unique training and coaching academy combining the sport sciences with the discipline of hard work. The programs at The Pat Cash International Tennis Academy have been developed from Pat’s many years of learning during his playing career, his analytical approach to television commentary and, most recently, the application of his knowledge in coaching on the professional tour.
The Pat Cash International Tennis Academy has been established at the internationally renowned, Hope Island Resort, on the exciting Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. A 40 minute drive from Brisbane International airport, and a 15 minute drive to the Gold Coast’s famous beaches, the resort is situated on 360 hectares of some of Australia’s most beautiful, waterfront surroundings. The magnificent setting is at a level commensurate with Pat's vision as a leader in tennis training today and into the future.
The Academy’s facilities include :
- 16 tennis courts - 5 rebound ace & 8 hard (2 red clay & 1 synthetic grass to complete in 2008)
- Fitness Studio (free weights, pin loaded & Fit Balls)
- Exercise Studio for yoga & Pilates classes
- Basketball court and beach volleyball pit (for cross training)
- Sprint Track
- Pro Shop and Café
ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT PLANS
For the past several years, the Academy has been leasing the land on which it stands from former Resort owners Walker Corporation. Under the terms of the lease, Walker Corporation restricted the Academy from pursuing its potential development plans. In late 2006, Mirvac Group purchased Hope Island Resort from Walker Corporation. Mirvac subsequently sold on the Academy site to the Academy, finally enabling it to pursue its vision to become the premier tennis training facility in Australasia. With Mirvac supporting the Academy's desire to expand, revised plans are currently being drawn up for Resort approval. With a bit of luck, work should begin mid 2008.
Keep a watch on this page for regular updates.
Revised plans include the following facilities :
- Junior player on-site accommodation
- New administration offices
- Full Service Cafe
- Expansive indoor/outdoor seating & viewing
- Up to 5 of the existing courts to be covered
- Coach/parent conference rooms
- On-site school classrooms
- Expansive player entertainment lounge
- Video analysis studio linked to 6 courts
- Modern shower/changing facilities
- Tournament office
- Psychologist office
- Massage & Physio treatment room
- Swimming pool
- Squash Court
- HIR Tennis Club lounge
- HIR Teen Club
The existing Fitness Studio will be doubled in size and receive an upgrade of a number of additional pieces of unique training equipment.
