Brisbane-based developer the Kilcor Group has unveiled its
plans for a $38 million lifestyle resort for the over-55s
at Hope Island adding yet another dimension to our development.
The Kilcor Group, which has developed more than $400 million
worth of property in Queensland and NSW during the past 15
years, has acquired a key 4.5-hectare site at the entrance
to Hope Island Resorts golf club. Kilcor is developing
the parcel in joint venture with business advisory conglomerate
PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Kilcor managing director Terry Kilmartin says the as-yet unnamed
resort is to be developed as a gated community and will comprise
150 upmarket two and three-bedroom apartments designed around
a central "owners club".
The club will feature a range of recreational and leisure
facilities including a swimming pool, billiards room, card
room, an owners bar, business centre and function and
meeting rooms.
The European-styled buildings will be configured in up to
four levels, with panoramic views across the Hope Island golf
course, lakes and mountains.
Apartments will feature a range of quality inclusions including
granite benchtops and European appliances, while the site
itself will feature large areas of densely landscaped open
space.
Site works are already well underway, with construction of
the first stage of 30 apartments and the central facilities
due to start in June, for completion early in 2002.
Mr Kilmartin says the resort is being developed under the
Retirement Village Act, but is designed to be much more than
a typical retirement village.
"This resort is designed to appeal to active over-55s,
people who are retired or semi-retired and who want to enjoy
their golf and their tennis, swimming and boating," Mr
Kilmartin said.
"Our resort will integrate within the wider amenities
of Hope Island Resort, so that people can scale down to an
apartment here and still have their boat in the Hope Island
Resort marina and golf cart access to the golf clubhouse,
shopping village and tennis centre."
Mr Kilmartin says the major appeal of the resort is its strategic
location only 40 minutes from the centre of Brisbane via the
new Pacific Motorway ; closer than many Brisbane suburbs ;
while still only 20 minutes to surf beaches and the heart
of the Gold Coast.
"We see Hope Island Residential Resort as Brisbanes
newest suburb. This makes living at Hope Island a very real
attraction for semi-retired people who want to spend some
of their time working in Brisbane," he said.
"The lifestyle changes that are currently happening mean
that 4.9 million Australians will pass through the 50-65 age
bracket over the next 10 years."
"Community is a very high priority for these people.
They want to be close to friends, beaches, theme parks for
the grandkids. They want to get out on the boat, play golf,
dine out, go shopping ; they want to live in a real and vibrant
community."
"This is how we see the future for Hope Island Resort
under Lang Walkers management and that is why we want
to be part of it."
Prices for apartments start at $245,000 and membership of
the Hope Island golf club is offered to all purchasers.
